Biographical Note for Retired Senior Volunteer Program, San Diego Chapter (1971-) : The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) began in New York City during the mid-1960s as a local program for regular voluntary service by older citizens in hospitals, schools, and businesses. The San Diego Chapter received its first grant in 1971.
