Historical Note: Organized in 1948 and incorporated in 1953, the San Diego Chapter of the Audubon Society (SDAS) is dedicated to promoting preservation and conservation activities.  The organization is involved with educational programs on ecology and natural science for citizens in the greater San Diego region.  SDAS is also involved in managing several wildlife preserves, including the Silverwood Wildlife Sanctuary and the Anstine-Audubon preserve in Oceanside. The organization is still active in environmental planning issues; assessing land use and development projects in the area, including development, the preservation of natural resources, and regional planning.
