Historical Note: Dr. Thomas M. Davies, Jr. was a professor of history at San Diego State University (SDSU) from 1968 to 2001 specializing in Latin American history. He was also chair of the Latin American Studies Department and served as the director of the Center for Latin American Studies at SDSU. Davies wrote and co-authored several books including Indian Integration in Peru: A Half Century of Experience 1900-1948, The Politics of Antipolitics: The Military in Latin America, and Guerilla Warfare. He served as an expert witness in more than four hundred Board of Immigration Appeals cases on behalf of Latin American immigrants seeking asylum from sexuality-driven persecution in their home countries.
