Sackman writes daily about the weather, the mundane activities of camp life (such as building winter quarters), and the movements of his company and regiment. This volume also includes a description of his experiences during the battle of Lewisburg, Virginia on May 23, 1862 [in what would become West Virginia in 1863]. These notebooks are primarily from Camp Piatt.
