In connection with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s investigation into the assassination of U.S. Congressman LEO J. RYAN at Port Kaituma, Guyana, South America, on November 18, 1978, a tape recording was obtained. This tape recording was located in Jonestown, Guyana, South America, and was turned over to U.S. Officials in Guyana and subsequently transported to the United States.
On June 4, 1979, Special Agent (name deleted) reviewed the tape numbered 1B96-Part I. This tape was found to contain the following:
JIM JONES broadcasting a "People’s Rally" wherein he speaks of the "conspiracy" to remove his son from Jonestown. He stated "I refuse … I’ll go to jail … we want a country that will give us asylum … we want to all leave together." Further JONES states, "If they come to take one of us they will have to take all of us." This tape is mostly inaudible due to radio interference and static.
There is no summary or transcript of this recording, but a full index is available on the Alternative Considerations of Jonestown website.
